Armeria maritima Pink Sea Thrift (Small 140mm pot)
A charming little evergreen perennial that forms neat, grassy cushions topped with masses of pink pom-pom flowers on slender stems through spring and into summer. Sea thrift is as tough as it is pretty, shrugging off wind, poor soil and dry conditions, and it's perfect for edging paths and filling gaps in rockeries. Extremely cold hardy, it sails through Canberra's frosts without a mark.
- Mature size: Approx. 15-25cm H x 30cm W
- Foliage: Fine, grass-like, dark green, evergreen cushions
- Flowers: Pink pom-pom flower heads on slender stems, spring to early summer
- Growth habit: Low, tight, clumping mound
- Position: Full sun; needs well-drained soil
- Climate: Very frost hardy; tolerates wind and dry conditions once established
- Water needs: Low; avoid overwatering and wet feet
- Soil: Well-drained soil improved with compost. Break up heavy Canberra clay with gypsum clay breaker. In pots, use Osmocote Premium Potting Mix.
- Feeding: Osmocote All Purpose in spring, or Yates Dynamic Lifter for an organic feed. Seasol at planting and through summer helps with heat stress.
- Maintenance: Low; trim off spent flower stems to encourage more blooms
- Ideal for: Edging and borders, rockeries, gravel and cottage gardens, pots
