Callistemon 'Captain Cook' (Small 140mm pot)
'Captain Cook' is a compact, hardy Australian native bottlebrush with a gently weeping habit and narrow green foliage. Bright red brush-like flowers appear in spring-summer, drawing honeyeaters and other nectar-feeding birds into the garden. It's tough, low-maintenance, and copes well with Canberra's dry spells once established.
Mature size: 1.5m high and wide
Flowers: bright red bottlebrush blooms, spring–summer
Habit: dense, slightly weeping
Position: full sun for best flowering
Water needs: drought tolerant once established
Soil: Copes with most soils, including heavier clay. Dig in gypsum clay breaker to help drainage. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.
Ideal for: low hedging, screening, bird-attracting gardens
