Callistemon 'Hot Pink' (Medium 200mm pot)
A compact native bottlebrush that lives up to its name, covering itself in vivid hot pink brushes in spring, often with a second flush in autumn. Dense, dark green foliage with soft bronze-pink new growth keeps it looking good between flowerings, and the nectar-rich blooms are a magnet for honeyeaters. Tough and easy to grow, it copes well with Canberra's dry spells once established.
- Mature size: Approx. 1.5m H x 1-1.5m W
- Foliage: Dense, dark green, evergreen; bronze-pink new growth
- Flowers: Vivid hot pink bottlebrushes in spring, often repeating in autumn
- Growth habit: Compact, bushy, rounded shrub
- Position: Full sun to part shade
- Climate: Tolerates light to moderate frost and dry periods once established; protect young plants from heavy frost
- Water needs: Low to moderate; regular water while establishing
- Soil: Copes with most soils, including heavier clay. Dig in gypsum clay breaker to help drainage. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
- Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.
- Maintenance: Low; trim behind spent flowers to keep it bushy, feed with a native fertiliser in spring
- Ideal for: Low hedges, native and bird-attracting gardens, mixed borders and pots
