Callistemon 'St Mary MacKillop' (Small 140mm pot)

$18.50

St Mary MacKillop is a lush, slightly weeping bottlebrush that puts on a big show of bright scarlet-red brushes from late spring into summer. The flowers are full of nectar, so expect honeyeaters and bees to visit all season. It grows into a dense, rounded shrub that makes a lovely informal screen or hedge, and copes with dry spells once settled into a sunny Canberra garden.

  • Mature size: approx. 2.5-3m x 1.5-2m
  • Foliage: narrow green leaves with pinkish new growth
  • Flowers: bright scarlet-red bottlebrushes, late spring to summer
  • Growth habit: dense, rounded and lightly weeping
  • Position: full sun to part shade
  • Climate: drought tolerant once established; handles light to moderate frost
  • Water needs: low once established; water young plants through dry spells
  • Soil: Copes with most soils, including heavier clay. Dig in gypsum clay breaker to help drainage. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
  • Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.
  • Maintenance: prune lightly after flowering to keep it bushy and encourage more flowers
  • Ideal for: screens, informal hedges, native and bird-attracting gardens
