Casuarina 'Cousin It' (Small 150mm pot)

$21.00

Casuarina glauca 'Cousin It' is a quirky, low-growing native groundcover with long, fine, hair-like green foliage that forms a soft cascading mound. It's brilliant for spilling over retaining walls, rocks and the edges of pots, and its dense mat of foliage smothers weeds and holds soil on slopes. Tough and easy-care, it handles Canberra frosts and dry spells; a heavy frost may brown the tips, but fresh growth comes back in spring.

  • Mature size: approx. 0.1–0.3m high x 1–2m wide
  • Foliage: Fine, trailing, evergreen green foliage
  • Flowers: Insignificant. Grown for its foliage
  • Growth habit: Prostrate, mounding and cascading
  • Position: Full sun to part shade
  • Climate: Frost tolerant (heavy frost may brown tips, recovers in spring); drought tolerant once established
  • Water needs: Water regularly for the first 12 weeks, then low
  • Soil: Well-drained soil. On heavy Canberra clay, dig in gypsum clay breaker before planting. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
  • Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.
  • Maintenance: Very low. Trim only to control spread; slow-release native fertiliser in spring
  • Ideal for: Groundcover, embankments and erosion control, retaining walls, rockeries, pots and modern native gardens
