Chrysocephalum apiculatum 'Yellow Buttons' (Small 140mm pot)

$22.00

A tough little Aussie native that covers itself in bright golden button flowers for months on end, from spring right through summer and often into autumn. The soft, silver-grey leaves look great all year and make a lovely contrast with greener plants. It naturally grows wild around Canberra, so it shrugs off our frosts and dry summers, and the papery flowers can even be picked and dried for vases.

  • Mature size: Approx. 0.2–0.4m H x 0.6–1m W
  • Foliage: Soft, silver-grey, evergreen
  • Flowers: Clusters of golden yellow buttons, spring to autumn; loved by butterflies
  • Growth habit: Low, spreading ground cover that drapes over edges and walls
  • Position: Full sun to light shade; well-drained soil
  • Climate: Frost hardy and native to the Canberra region
  • Water needs: Low once established; mulch well over summer
  • Soil: Well-drained soil. On heavy Canberra clay, dig in gypsum clay breaker before planting. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
  • Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.
  • Maintenance: Low; cut back hard after flowering to keep it dense and tidy
  • Ideal for: Native gardens, borders and edging, rockeries, mass planting and pots
