Grevillea lanigera 'Woolly Bear' (Small 140mm pot)
A low, spreading woolly grevillea with soft, grey-green foliage and clusters of pink and cream spider flowers from winter through spring, with spot flowering at other times of year. It forms a dense, weed-suppressing mound and is loved by small nectar-feeding birds. The species grows naturally in the high country of south-eastern Australia, so it's right at home with Canberra's frosts and dry summers.
- Mature size: Approx. 30-50cm H x 1-1.5m W
- Foliage: Soft, woolly, grey-green, evergreen
- Flowers: Pink and cream spider flowers, winter to spring, with spot flowering through the year
- Growth habit: Low, dense, spreading groundcover shrub
- Position: Full sun to part shade; needs well-drained soil
- Climate: Frost and drought tolerant once established
- Water needs: Low; regular water while establishing
- Soil: Free-draining, low-phosphorus soil. On heavy Canberra clay, dig in gypsum clay breaker and plant on a slight mound. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.
- Feeding: Sensitive to phosphorus, so use a native fertiliser only: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Avoid general fertilisers and manures.
- Maintenance: Low; light tip prune after flowering, use a low-phosphorus native fertiliser only
- Ideal for: Groundcover, banks and slopes, rockeries, borders, native and bird-attracting gardens
