Myoporum parvifolium (Small 140mm pot)

$16.80

This fast-spreading Aussie native forms a dense, low carpet of fine, bright green leaves on trailing reddish stems. Through spring and summer it's dotted with dainty star-shaped white flowers that bees and butterflies love. It's hardy and water-wise, handles Canberra's hot, dry summers once established, and quickly smothers weeds, which makes it one of the easiest ground covers you can plant.

  • Mature size: 15–30cm tall x 1–2m wide

  • Foliage: Small, narrow, slightly succulent bright green leaves on trailing reddish stems

  • Flowers: Star-shaped white flowers, mainly spring to summer, with scattered blooms into autumn

  • Growth habit: Prostrate and fast-growing; forms a dense, weed-suppressing mat

  • Position: Full sun to light shade; needs well-drained soil

  • Climate: Very drought tolerant once established; tolerates light to moderate frost

  • Water needs: Low once established; water regularly until settled in

  • Soil: Well-drained soil. On heavy Canberra clay, dig in gypsum clay breaker before planting. In pots, use Native Osmocote Potting Mix.

  • Feeding: Osmocote Native in spring, or Neutrog Bush Tucker as a liquid feed. Seasol at planting helps it settle in.

  • Maintenance: Very low; trim edges if needed to keep it in bounds

  • Ideal for: Ground cover, banks and slopes, rockeries, spilling over retaining walls, large pots, low-water gardens and native gardens. Great for attracting bees and butterflies
